Eh, you Malaysian meh?

By now, all of us know that one Mongolian woman by the name of Altantuya is dead. And she was allegedly killed by three Malaysians. And one of these three Malaysians allegedly did it at the behest of some top politician. The trial is still ongoing. (its going into its 107th day now I think)

And while many of us were excited to know the outcome initially, many of us really couldnt care less about it anymore. (yes, such is the mundane nature of a real non-tv related trial- no SURPRISE witnesses, no SURPRISE finger pointing no JENG JENG JENG moments where some surprise exhibit is tendered or a witness swooshes through the front door).

What irks me is the family of this murdered lady. First his father complains that the trial is taking very long. Like hello? Other people in MALAYSIA have to have their trial go on too you know? What your daughter is the only murder victim in the country?

And then he goes to the media and complains about how he finds it hard to "pick up the pieces emotionally and financially". And that Altantuya's children are missing her, one has an enlarged head from fluid retention, the other had to be tutored privately because he could not stand the jibes he got from school due to his mother's death (what jibes? that she is dead? that I suppose IS cruel). AND of course there is the disappointment with the Malaysia NGOs.

And I quote from the Sun :-
" Shariibuu said he was disappointed that the Malaysian non-government organisations (NGOs) had not spoken up or offered any assistance to the family, while the Malaysian media has been potraying Altantuya in a bad light."

AND

"When it came to one prostitute in UK, the whole country and Umno was talking about helping her and sending assistance for her, but here we have two children who have lost their mother and nobody does anything."

Okay, uncle. Just FYI,

Firstly, your daughter (and yourself and your grandchildren) are NOT MALAYSIANS? HELLO? Just because she was allegedly killed IN malaysia does not automatically mean she is entitled to be OFFERED any help by the Malaysian Government (or NGOs). What do you think? That us Malaysians OWE you something? We work hard to earn our money. We pay our taxes and just because 3 men of Malaysian origin ALLEGEDLY killed her, we surrender our money to HELP YOU?

Call me selfish. Call me whatever you like. But I am NOT surrendering any help or agreeing to any help being given to you. Sorry. Many other people IN Malaysia, who ARE Malaysians need more help than you. Many Malaysians live below the poverty line, many are struggling everyday, and you, YOU who can travel all the way from Mongolia every time there is a trial, want us to help you financially?

And FYI, many Malaysians have gone overseas and committed crimes and have been caught there, and the Malaysian government has been consistent in its stance that we will not extend any help to them. If you dare commit the crime, then you must serve the time. Period.

What am I getting it? Well, I am just saying that many Malaysians are waiting and hoping for help by the Malaysian government, but they do not get it (whether they deserve it or not) and here you are, a Mongolian citizen, DEMANDING us to offer help and BERATING us for not helping you?

Come on. Dont make me slap you around and call you Shabu-Shabu.

And secondly, you have to be very clear that UMNO offered to help that Sufiah girl in the UK. Not the rakyat. They do NOT speak for us. And Malaysians have this tendency to tumpang glamour when we know of any famous/infamous person who has 1/800th of Malaysian blood. (OH GUY SEBASTIAN!He used to be taken care of by Malaysian god parents, MALAYSIAN! Oh Che'nelle!She stayed in Sabah for 9 years!MALAYSIAN!)

Anyway, I digress.

My point is, yes, Sufiah should not be offered ANY help. In the first place, she does NOT need help. Prostitution is a choice. (To me anyway, many people may disagree) So she might not have made the best choice, but she still made a choice which she is entitled to. And besides, what type of help are we talking about here? Brainwash? Offer her money so that she doesnt have to sell her body? Come on. She has the brains. She CAN make the money without selling her body. She just does not want to.
So let her be.

Oh wait, I digress again.

Okay, my REAL point is, Mr. Shaariibu, who are YOU to make judgment calls on Malaysia? We want to help Sufiah? So what? We do not want to help you? SO WHAT? We are entitled to! Its our damn money!

While we are sorry your daughter was murdered, allegedly by 3 Malaysians, we do NOT owe you anything.

So stop going to the media to try to gain sympathy. You do not have my sympathy. It really just makes me want to go over there and slap some senses into you.

Every once in a while, you see a picture like this and feel blessed to know that despite our differences in religion and culture (perpetuated by mindless politicians and certain royalty) we are above all, Malaysians.

The Iron Lady spews words of wisdom?

Today the headlines screamed this:-

RAFIDAH'S REMINDER...UMNO's Iron Lady Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz says:-

"Remember, we are not changing the(Umno) President, we are changing the prime minister. Other parties can change their president tomorrow they can tell their president to go today, not Umno. We are talking about the prime minister and this country has never had a prime minister who has been pushed out in our history, always remember that."

I am SO thankful that we have Iron Lady (how is she an iron lady? Cos she spews nonsense out of her mouth with no consequences? Or that she managed to hold on to her position even with the AP fiasco?) to go to the Media and remind us of the obvious. Like, how lucky are we??
Some of us might have forgotten our beloved PM is actually the President of UMNO. Or that when we ask for beloved PM to step down, we are not just asking him to vacate the post of UMNO President but also as PM. So these sort of reminders are timely and appreciated.

To say Iron Lady is stating the obvious is an understatement. To say she is uttering nonsense is even more of an understatement.

Seriously Iron Lady, we the rakyat are not as stupid as you think we are. May we also send a few reminders to you.

No.1: History never had a PM whose wife died and he married his ex sister in law while still serving as PM;

No.2: History of Malaysia never had a PM who managed to singlehandedly incite more riots and street protests in his short tenure;

No.3: History of Malaysia never had a PM who listen and acts according to his son in law (but live in denial that he might actually be more stu- I mean, not as clever as he thinks he is)

But it still happened didnt it?

So, Iron Lady, YOU remember this:-

History cannot be changed (unless it involves Hang Tuah and his glorious life being taught in History classes until it was discovered he might be Chinese and swiftly removed from the History Books as being irrelevant to the History of Malaysia). However the Future can. We learn from History. We do not emulate the historical past. And we sure as hell do NOT, stick to what does not work in the past. We improve.

Just because it never happened before does not mean it can never happen.
(Please Iron Lady, go and read your World History. The Revolution? Ever heard of that? The Communist Party taking over China? Things change.)

Just because the PM happens to be the President of UMNO and you UMNO people do not remove your president as you like (cos you are all lalang and will pledge your support for whomever is in power just so your pockets remain full and your children remain well provided for) does not mean he should not be removed.

He is the PM first and foremost. If he fails in his duty while wearing that nametag, he should step down. And if that means he vacates his UMNO presidency, so be it.

UMNO does NOT rule us. UMNO is not the Government. We do not care what happens in UMNO.

We care about whether the PM is working or not. We care about whether he is fulfilling his promises. We care about ourselves. And are we being selfish? Yes. Do we have the right to be? YES. Its OUR country. Its OUR wellbeing. OUR money and our economy and OUR future at stake.

So Iron Lady, do not remind us of things irrelevant to the wellbeing of Malaysia but only relevant to you and your blind loyalty to your President.

Just dont.

the Consti-what?

Remember the whole Terengganu MB fiasco?

Remember how our beloved PM chose candidate No.1 Mr. Jusoh, and how the Sultan of Terengganu(aka Agong) chose candidate No.2 Mr. Saad? And then all the UMNO members rallied behind their beloved UMNO president(because those people are "yes men" according to our beloved EX-PM and will bend like lalang whenever the wind blows) and cried that they will NOT support the Agong's choice but will stand behind Mr. Jusoh?

And did you know NONE of the mainstream media published all the wrongdoings of Mr. Jusoh? One Terengganu Newspaper detailed every single misappropriation of funds by Mr. Jusoh. From the Monsoon Cup to the Petronas subsidy. But mainstream media? None of that. All we get is, INFIGHTING BETWEEN PAS AND DAP. BN GETS SUPPORT BY RAKYAT. WE HEART PAK LAH. WE HEART BN.

Um, sorry. But some of us, do not HEART Pak Lah nor BN.

So they yelled and they scremed that it was not right for the Agong to interfere. They protested, they demonstrated. And what did the PM say of this bad behaviour and disrespect to the Agong? Nothing. But when Lim Kit Siang made a comment on his blog about his displeasure with the Sultan of Perak's decision to accept a PAS man as the MB of Perak, he was called disrespectful to the Sultan and asked to apologise.

To add insult to the injury, our beloved PM then looked the TV crew in the eyes(and straight into the cameara thrusted in his face) and said "ia tidak mengikut Perlembagaan Malaysia" ?

I nearly died laughing.

PERLEMBAGAAN?

When did this country EVER respected the Perlembagaan? I do not remember the PM citing the Perlembagaan when he ordered the people to be arrested under the ISA just because they took to the streets to yell that they want RM1 million compensation each(albeit a stupid request but apparently it was for a much bigger cause), or sprayed water cannons and tear gas into the Bersih rally (freedom of expression?), or disallowed the inter religious conference,or kept mum when there was a discussion about whether one can convert out of Islam, or when some idiot of a Minister yelled Malaysia was a ISLAMIC country and that if the rest of us were unhappy, we could leave or somehow spared the water cannons when his son in law and his posse marched in front of the KLCC Convention Centre to give a memo to Condoleeza Rice (who CARES for what?) and also spared the UMNO(and BN) supporters the rough treatment of dispersing the crowd when they gathered in front of Komtar?
Equality before the law? CONSTITUTION?

Where is the "TIDAK MENGIKUT PERLEMBAGAAN" comment that was much needed and desired from the PM?

We didnt get jackshit.

Instead we heard crickets. That or a deafening silence.

However, when you challenge his choice of candidate for an all important post right after he suffered a humiliating loss (loss to Non-BN supporters but still a STRONG SUPPORT win if you are pro BN) and have been asked to step down as UMNO president and as PM, suddenly there is talk of this all elusive Perlembagaan.

Its one of those things we have HEARD about it but never really knew whether it actually, truly, exists. Now, we know, it MIGHT exists. Because the PM actually mentioned it.

However, the PM soon suffered a memory loss and forgot all about the fact that he said it was unconstitutional. He comes before the rakyat and declares(semacam hero)that he RESPECTS the decision of the Agong, and that he will support whichever candidate that will be sworn in a MB and so all his posse quickly rallied behind him and started kissing Mr. Saad's hand. Oh, we will serve you. WE HEART SAAD!

It really sends shivers down my spine to know that this MAN, this MAN who claims to represent us, the one whom we think should know the law and the workings of the country at the back of his hand, might actually be, an empty husk.

And merely a puppet.

Waiting for the Politicians to grow up

Another DAP man quits. Then changes his mind. SIX hours later.
This is not a "I think I should eat that cake. No I shouldnt. No I should. NO I should. No wait, I will" scenario ok?

This is Politics. This is you, representing those who have VOTED for you, to speak on their behalf. This is you being responsible not only for you own wellbeing, but for many others. This is you being a representative. A YB. This is you, at least trying not be an idiot of a person you truly are.

So, what made him quit and change his mind 6 hours later?

He says he was unhappy with the fact that there is only ONE indian man on the Perak exco.(or was it there was None? I forget) Apparently this does not represent the many indians in Perak. He wanted MORE representation. So, because he didnt get what he wanted, he whined and pouted and quit.(If only Samy Vellu was a quitter we wouldnt have had to endure him for this many years but fret not because luck is finally on our side this year!)
If DAP-PKR-PAS were not dependent on the two seat majority to retain their power in Perak, I would say thank you very much you lousy candidate/respresentative, be gone and dont come back!

Come on, first Fong Po Kuan and now this??

Don't ANY of you actually know anything about being matured about something? About discussion? About negotiation? That you actually sit to think, hmm...why is there only one Indian man on the exco?(Or none, as mentioned above, I forget) Is it because there is a lack of Indians in the party? Is it because the Indian majority is smaller? Is there an oversight? Maybe I should speak to Lim Guan Eng.

No, instead its, I QUIT!NOW GIVE ME WHAT I WANT IF YOU WANT ME BACK!

Women are not well represented in the Exco, did the women MPs quit??
(On this point, I would like to point out to a certain article in Star which said that women were not well represented in Parliament and this article mentions that Rafidah Aziz being UMNO Wanita Prez should have been given a spot in cabinet, I say "PLEASE LADY!Do you NOT know what Rafidah has been doing???What has she done for women anyway???I am SO glad she is gone. Even with the AP issue, she still lingered around courtesy of our dear PM- at least he has smartened up a bit)

Did the women yell, shove and pout and tender their resignation?(Fong Po Kuan is a different story la cos she doesnt represent women. She represents herself and her interest only. Oh I quarreled with some people in DAP. I want to quit. I wont change my mind, I will stick to my decision..I will..OOOHHH...ok, I changed my mind. LALANG!)

You know what I think? I think politicians should just grow up. (No, its not a joke. I know many of you will laugh at the obviousness of this statement but I HAD to say it)Do not put yourself out to represent us when you are a man who cannot be rational.Someone who cannot even think of the Party as a whole and not only for himself. Once you're dead, you've lost a big part of your life!

I do not know what the big fuss about the Judicial Fiasco of Tun Salleh Abbas is about. And I sure as hell do not know why some would call for an apology either by the current government or by the previous PM.

Seriously. It happened such a long time ago. And frankly, most of us either:-
1) Do not care, or
2) Have forgotten about it, or
3) Want to move on, or
4) Wish for the focus to be on the current state of judiciary than how it was before.

I fall under category 3 & 4. While I do not care deeply about it, I of course wished such a "fiasco" did not marr the judiciary of Malaysia. But then, we are suppose to MOVE ON. We learn from mistakes and we MOVE ON.

We dont come into a new Malaysia (or whatever they call it after March 8) and harp on PAST issues!We do not say MALAYSIANS HAVE SPOKEN! We are tired of the OLD SHIT! We want CHANGE! WE WANT A BETTER FUTURE! And then say, however, before that, lets revisit the past and ask for apologies.

Come on. Who the heck cares whether the government/ex PM apologises? Does it change anything? Does it automatically change the state of the Judiciary now? Does it make all appointments of judges now legitimate? I think the answer is obviously a resounding NO.

For me, I do not care much about what is to be done to "correct" the wrongs of the past. I want to know what can be done to correct the wrongs right before my eyes TODAY. NOW. Tell me why some lawyers without any criminal experience (and I mean WITHOUT/NIL/NADA) can be a High Court Judge deciding on the lives of people? Sending them to the gallows when frankly, she has been doing Family matters all these while when in private practice. Even we do not approach a conveyancing lawyer and ask him or her to help us fight a litigation. We find a litigation lawyer. And what more being placed before a person who will decide on your life or death. Does that not send shivers down your spine?

So really, give the apology thing a rest. Look to the future. Focus on the present. Give us something to chew on NOW. We want changes. We want things to improve for the better.

Yes, while some of us agree that an apology for past wrongs will ensure a smoother transition to improvements in the future, unfortunately, its too late now. Wrongs have been done. And frankly, all that happened was that some people lost their jobs. Albeit high ranking jobs. I think more importantly, there are some people NOW with their lives in the hands of incompetent ones. That I think is more important that losing one's job or pride.

Because you know, in Brooke Shield's words "once you are dead, you've lost a big part of your life".

Gosh, such wise words to live by.

Some people just cannot accept change!

So the whole Perak MB issue has been settled.Finally.

In my previous posts, I have ranted and raved about a PAS man being the MB and DAP not putting up a fight. However, recent events have made me reconsider my stand. Firstly, I have to admit, Nazir is the most qualified candidate of the three men proposed for the MB position. He is qualified academically, he has had experience in nation building ( well, more like projects but these skills can be honed) and he can even speak a little (enough) of the Chinese language. He addressed the Perak constituent with Mandarin after being sworn in. (to which us Perak-ians unanimously shouted HAO! when asked by Nizar NI HAO MA?!) We are told he is actually of Chinese-Malay parentage(so chinese people are happy, malays are happy and if only he also had Indian blood...)

I would like to wish him the best and hope that he will do a great job in the position as MB.

(Yes, sometimes I may be wrong and I will admit it. However, time will tell whether the new MB will indeed perform)

So then the next issue everyone (including the NGOs- seriously? NGO? What is THEIR problem?) was harping on was the State Exco of Perak. It consist of 6 DAP, 2 PAS and 2 PKR members (if I remember correctly). Now, what irks me is the fact that everybody wants to have a say about how it "tidak mewakili komposisi bangsa Melayu di Perak" as the DAP party got 6 positions in the State Exco.

These NGOs and busybodies hold press conferences to yell "TIDAK BOLEH DITERIMA!".
Seriously, what IS their problem? DAP won most of the seats in Perak. The most important seat was given to a PAS man. Whom, in case these NGOs and other busybodies did not notice, IS A MALAY MAN? Already DAP decided, ok, let the best man be the MB and we shall not fight for it.
So, does it not make sense that DAP (who just so happen to have more Chinese members than Non Chinese- but does not automatically mean they ONLY represent non Chinese member's rights [unlike UMNO]) who won more seats and have relinquished the MB position be given a bigger share of the pie, so to speak?

What is there to yell about "tidak boleh diterima"? Er, hello?! Go take your damn mic which you shouted in and shove it in your foul-unthinking-selfish-racist mouth!

The people in Perak have actually moved on. There is no longer an issue about race. Yes, initially there was. And in fact, if the Non Chinese people DID want to make an issue about the MB being from PAS, eventhough DAP won most seats, we would have stormed the streets and shouted for it. But we rather not. We trust out Sultan and his Son. We trust that the party whom we have chosen to represent us can make the decision in our interests. And besides, even if all previous statements are not true, we have better things to do then stand around the street protesting when we seriously, do not know jack shit about the agreement PAS-DAP-PKR made in power sharing. Whatever it is, I feel its a good deal.

And for the rest of you who think more Malay people should be in the exco. Stop being racist. When BN was in power and EVERY damn person in the Exco and in whatever top administration post was Malay, do WE Non Malays make a fuss???

Do we ask why the President of UMNO AUTOMATICALLY becomes PM? Because a lot of us sure do NOT agree. Do we ask why why MBs MUST be malay? Do we question all these Malay dominated domains? We dont. We just accept it (albeit disgruntedly) because in the infamous words we "tolerate" it. So if there is a domain where Non Malays can actually dominate or be given an opportunity to shine, I'm sorry, but we are seizing that opportunity. It IS our country too, just in case you forgot.

My advise to you my racist so called NGO and busybodies alike, accept change because change is here, and its happening whether you like it or not.

So, shut up already and go be productive for once.

Short term memory

"RECOGNISE MALAY SUPREMACY"

We are back at that again arent we?

It is frustrating to know that Malaysians forget that we exists as a nation. Its once again about being Malay, Chinese, Indian, Sikh or "lain-lain".

Once again, its about recognising the Malay Supremacy. The Malay right to everything good and great. The Malay right to the NEP. The Malay birth right to all the privileges they have been receiving.

The Malay right.

The only rights I will recognise are the right to be Malaysian, the right to say I am Malaysian, without having to classify myself as being of a particular race in order to determine whether I am entitled to some things or not.

What is with the Malays? Why are they so dependent on the NEP? Have they not reached a point in their lives where they MUST say, "I have to stand up for myself?"

I just dont understand the mentality. You call for MALAY SUPREMACY. But you insist on the NEP. The NEP is at the core of it, to help those who cannot help themselves. The helpless ones, the ones who just cannot stand on their own two feet to make their own money without getting a nudge from the Government.On one hand you say "I AM GREAT AND SUPREME", on the other you say "HELP ME. I CANNOT DO THIS MYSELF. I NEED IT."

How are you supreme when you need handouts?

I thought the Opposition garnered a lot of votes because the Nation as a whole was tired with all the race politics. The analysts in the aftermath of the political "tsunami" said that Malaysians have risen!They are no longer tied down to the idea of race politics!They have voted for PKR eventhough there were calls by their leader Anwar to get rid of NEP. And the Malays have finally realised that its time to cast away the NEP idea.

Then barely two weeks later, we have protests when they is even a HINT of a talk of abolishing the NEP or not implementing it.

Talk about short term memory.
Talk about BS.

Change can NEVER come when people refuse to cast away old ideas and tradition. When people refuse to stand up for themselves but instead let someone else decide for them. When people are complacent and are adverse to having to work hard for something(when they never had to).

Change has to start from within us. Do not call for changes from the Government, the Opposition the Machinery of Administration when we ourselves are not ready to give up anything or give in to anything.

If you want something, sometimes, you have to give up everything.

An Ipoh girl sits and ponders...

If DAP cannot stand up for itself, how can it stand up for those who voted for them?

Obviously by now everyone knows about the whole Menteri Besar fiasco in Perak. DAP won most seats, followed by PKR and then PAS. So logically, DAP should be the candidate for MB. Logically la. Just like logically, Malaysia as a country that has fuel should not be paying so much for it, yet we do. So, logic always gives way to Malaysia Boleh-ic.

In Malaysia Boleh-ic, PAS becomes the MB in Perak. Do I hear echoes of WTF? Apparently, the fact that DAP won most seats in Perak is "not a consideration" according to PAS vice President, because the constitution says that the MB has to be Malay. And besides, he adds that a Malay man must be MB to ensure "stability".

Stability?

WTF does that even mean? Stability from racism? Stability from illogical stance? STABILITY? I SPIT on that. Dont throw that word at us just like UMNO threw TOLERANCE at us.

The Perak Sultan has the discretion to swear in a Non Malay MB. He will decide who is the best person for the job. But hey, he threw DAP and PKR a line and do they take it?
No.
They swam past the line into the dark abyss called stupidity in the name of so called stability.

Secretly, BN is laughing behind our backs. Laughing at this so called power sharing coalition. Laughing at how DAP has been taken for a ride. Laughing.

And we would hate to admit that DAP is in fact no opposition at all. You are not an opposition if you cannot even stand up for yourself and your principles.

Lim Kit Siang is the only man now. He is unfortunately, the lone ranger who will fight for what he stands and what he believes.

So where do we go from here?

How a pessimist tried to bring me down..

Now, I have a friend, (whom I shall refer to as J) who over dinner and coffee one night told me "Its better to have something than to have nothing" when I asked why he was such a big BN supporter.

His rationale? That the Non Malays have quite a lot now. Its not a lot but its enough because, as said above, "its better to have something than nothing".

When the election results were announced on Sunday, I texted him to say, "Well I guess not everyone thinks along the same lines as you. We actually believe its not better to have something compared to nothing. We can actually have more."

And I received this reply:-
"Nope, its more of our future is now filled with more uncertainty. in a global perspective investors may just pull all funds out. Then there goes our contry and our livelihood. many just dont see the magnitude of their actions. The consequences will come..and I hope we are all ready to move backwards."

On Monday,Mr. I-told-you-so aka J texted me to say "KLSE dropped 99 points and closed in the negative. But no point crying over spilt milk"

Of course my immediate reaction to Mr. I-told-you-so was that he obviously had not read the reports of analysts and the news surrounding the market drop. All SEA markets have been steadily dropping as a reaction to US job cutbacks. Even the US market dropped 140 points. And Malaysian market being one which is influenced by everything, would drop too. (As confirmed by Ex Bursa Malaysia President on Bernama TV yesterday)

But of course Mr. I-told-you-so was quick to jump at the opportunity to shout HAH!I TOLD you the economy will go to the dogs because of these stupid actions of the electorate voting for the Opposition. (Without doing much research on the issue I must add)

Now, this is why I beg to differ from Mr. I-told-you-so.

Many fail to see the long term effects of this election result. There will now be more accountability and transparency in the Government and its spending. That can only augur well for the country. No more mega projects without accountability. No more selling of Proton(or what not) for RM1. No more cancelling projects as and when they like. No more of these bullshit. And how is that bad for the country?

I wonder whether these non believers actually sit down to think, now the Opposition Coalition could have won by such a big majority only if a lot of the rakyat actually thought they can actually perform. The voters who live in Bangsar, Perak, Selangor and Kedah are obviously not uneducated, non investors and un-economically savvy. They would have definitely thought about their votes and their livelihood and their investments. They made an informed choice. They KNOW what they were voting for. A portion of those investors and sharemarket players LIVE in Bangsar. A huge portion of them live in those areas where the Coalition was given a majority.

As much as Mr. I-told-you-so wants to deny it, he cannot ignore the fact that the supporters of the Opposition might actually know more than he does. Sharizat has been doing a good job and I sympathise with her for being kicked out just by being in BN. She has done a lot for Bangsar and she has also been a MP who has been vocal about Women's Rights. Of course many have said Nurul Izzah should be given a chance. But I think perhaps. just maybe, Lembah Pantai is too big for her this time. Not as a newbie with no experience. I have doubts. But of course, unlike Mr. I-told-you-so, I will not dismiss her completely. I shall give her a chance.

Well, the winds of change have finally arrived in Malaysia.

I will embrace it, but of course, with a tinge of caution.

The rakyat has spoken.

I am thankful for the winds of change. I embrace it.

Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold.

If there is anything that I have learnt over the past two days, its the fact that you have to choose your friends carefully.

Look at Anwar Ibrahim. Look at his "former" friends going public about all the wrongs that he is responsible for or is perpetuating. Of course these former friends of his are just doing it "out of a sense of duty as a citizen and a voter" and that if they did not come out against Anwar, they would have "failed in (my) responsibility to my fellow citizens and my nation".

Wahlau.
Damn hero-lah.
(Where are all these people when you need them to say speak out against the politicians who lie to us in our faces everyday?)

What I find quite interesting is the fact that Anwar's fomer friends(FF)are saying that Anwar is now singing a different tune from when he was in government. When he was in government, he was not a multi-racial-I-want-to-abolish-NEP type of man. He was more of a I-will-make-sure-the-temple-bells-would-not-ring-in-the-country-anymore (in relation to the Kampung Jawa clashes) type of man.

Personally, I think being incarcerated for 6 years, with alleged police brutality and unfounded(as recently admitted by Mahathir) allegations against him, does and CAN change a man. It can make a man who was a gung ho UMNO supporter or anti non-Muslim advocate, to be one who thinks, you know what? If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone. If this is how the Government can bring you down in a day after it took you almost a lifetime to build yourself up, I think I am in the wrong camp.

I have attended Anwar's talks before. He IS a great orator. And I have mentioned before that he may be all talk and no substance, but I have not dismissed him entirely. Many have asked him why he is singing a different tune now compared to when he was in Government, and he explained that yes, he was foolish then. He had all the comforts, but things have changed now. He has seen the "dark side" and he thinks he can help now.

I mean, even I have changed in the past 6 years. What I thought was important then may not be important now. In fact, I am more politically aware now than I was before. So my outlook has changed. And I would think Anwar had a comfortable life prior to being plucked out and dumped in prison. He MIGHT just have changed. His FF obviously do not think so. Well, they are entitled to their opinions. But if only they had be gentlemanly enough to keep these mud slinging out of the press. (Then again, anything PRO-BN always make it to the front pages. Especially when its DIE OPPOSITION!DIE!)

Many politicians have had their fair share of FF. And even Mahathir was once out of UMNO. Even Badawi. Everyone has had their fallout but have been fully embraced back into their party as years passed. Things change. People change. And we can only wish that these changes are for our own good. We may all be sceptics. But we may all also choose to be a believer.

So, while I sit down and write this, I wonder whether I myself have been taken in by the calls for change. I wonder whether I believe Anwar and his calls for the abolishment of the NEP and reduction of fuel prices. I wonder if I am convinced the DAP can bring the crime rate down. I wonder if indeed BN has been effective all these while and can continue to be so.

I wonder. Is it time to look at hard facts and statistics? Or listen to the IF only, If only stories?

I suppose, I still have 2 more days to think about it before I have to cast my "X".

I think at the end of the day, it boils down to whether after all these years I have been given the opportunities I am entitled to. Whether all these talk about unity and freedom (ala BN's radio announcements) is what truly matters to me or whether its the abolishment of so called positive discrimination that I really want to hear.

My ears are listening. My eyes are open.

But I dont see anything.

the "Prudent List"

"The Government must be prudent when using our resources.."

- Finance Minister, Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yackop.

When I read this response by the Government to Anwar Ibrahim's promise to reduce the price of fuel if given the opportunity to rule, I burst out laughing.

It is funny how the Government can come up with these words of wisdom. I suspect they have a dictionary of "something stupid to say today".

Firstly, the word PRUDENT does not exist in the Government's vocabulary. The word prudent obviously did not crop up when the Government decided to:-

1) Abandon Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad which houses the Court Complex, construct a monster at Jalan Duta, full of defects such as leaking roofs, non functioning air cons, lack of parking space, you name the defect, it has it.

2) Build another Istana(What is wrong with the current one? Too small?)

3) Give the Islamic Consumer Association RM10 million to help Muslims who have borrowed money from Ah Longs repay their debts.

4) Spend RM1million on BN campaign flyers and ads. (OUR TAXpayer's[pro BN or otherwise] money)

5) Construct hideous arches along the highway that says "Selamat Datang!" or "Bandaraya Petaling Jaya cantik selalu". Or just a stupid arch with no words or messages, but constructed merely to assail our sense of sight.

6) Spend money building a sports complex somewhere in the UK, eventhough it has been told by the council that it is impossible for the complex to be built and frankly, nobody can use it due to its unsuitable soil conditions.

7) Send two athletes to a Sports Meet, but 20 officials to accompany them- with allowances, flight tickets, food and accomodation all fully paid for.

8) Send local council officials on a LAWATAN SAMBIL BELAJAR tour of how to manage toilets. And spend tons of cash on making "official uniforms" for their "special occasions".

9) Purchasing/Renting a private jet for our beloved PM to go on any one of his 13 holidays in a year.

10) Giving ciplak engineers the job of constructing the middle ring road, susbsequently having problems with the major defects then having to hire "specialists" from Europe(costing millions)to find out the problem and remedy the defects.

And this is only the short list of how kind the Government has been in spending our resources prudently.

Imagine what other prudent use of resources that the Government have omitted to tell us.

Now, I did not know that there were no Chinese, Indian or other races living in Kelantan. Did you?

Apparently, only the Muslims live there. If not, why else would BN issue a statement saying "if you vote for us, we will allocate money to build mosques and upkeep the current ones"?

Why would non-Muslims need money to upkeep mosques for? Its not their place of worship. I suppose BN is not hoping for Non-Muslim support there. Or they assume that they are such a minority, its dismissable. So, if they are to be elected, there is no need to watch out for the needs and wants of the Non Muslims. Maybe. I wouldnt know.

Ever since our beloved PM announced that Parliament is dissolved and that March 8 would be election day (in the middle of the CNY no less- Thanks PM!You're so mindful of the needs of others!), newspapers have been FLOODED with election news. Frankly, I find it disgusting. DAP or other opposition parties never make it to the front news unless its "PO KUAN QUITS" or there is an image of a (elder)politician bawling for the cameras to see over "its hard for women in politics". (Like SERIOUSLY DAP, you want to be a formidable opponent to BN? Stop airing your damn laundry in public and get those bawlers to do it in the confines of their bathroom)

It is usually about Barisan Nasional and images of BN candidates giving mineral water(like what?) or suddenly discovering there are clogged drains to be cleaned (ala Samyvellu after he was stopped from leaving and was forced to take a walk to see the sad state of the village- "to his shock and horror he discovered clogged drains"
Ed note: There is only shock and horror when there are NO clogged drains.

It is weird. Suddenly there are so many politicians out there who hold so much promise. Who can help you with this and that. Who is suddenly so peka to my needs and my grievances. Suddenly there are so many choices of whom you want to direct your problems to. There is the YB, and the Tuan and the Tan Sri and the Datuk, and the ever humble Encik.

After this elections, suddenly these people will vanish from the face of the earth. All calls to offices to air your grievances will go unanswered. All problems you have will receive only one answer "masih dalam siasatan" or "akan dirujuk kepada Tuan X" and the recently cleaned drains would suddenly have rubbish piling in it again.
(And all the flags, posters and all other campaign whachamacallits, will be there until it dissolves under the acidic rain or has something stuck over it. Nobody removes it after the campaign season is over)

So, why do people still get caught up in this election fever/campaign? Why do people get excited about it? Maybe its because its their one opportunity to see their elected rep and go "ooohhh, HE is the one-la"
Or maybe some people just need some, ANY excitement in their mundane lives.

Frankly, this whole extended from 8 to 10 days campaigning thing is just plain annoying.

Can you believe the shit that make it into the newspaper nowadays?

Empty Vessels make the most noise

I am rooting for Barack Obama.

Oh wait, he is not running in the elections in Malaysia. I forgot. I got so caught up in the battle that he has with that Hillary Clinton and analysing their policies and their blueprint for the future that I felt and thought and was actually convinced they were advocating for change in Malaysia. Okay, I WISHED.

When I go to barackobama.com, I see the list of his past "achievements". He is a lawyer from Harvard. He has been in practise for 10-15 years, active in racial abuse cases. He is the editor in Harvard Law Review.And he taught Constitutional Law for 10 years. A Professor. And all in all, he is only 46 years old.

Ok, because I am rooting for Obama, I did not bother with Hillary's website. However, some of barack obama's voters have also listed out the things she has done these past years of her life.(for comparison purposes)
She has been active in women's rights and the Purple Heart Foundation, and speech therapy for children. She has been active in quite a few things too (though of course not as impressive as Obama).

When I look at these two candidates, I know why its such a neck to neck race. They both have credentials. They both have done a lot for their country. And they both know what they are talking about.

That makes me sad.

Why?

It makes me sad because I compare them to our candidates in Malaysia. When our current PM became PM, I did not know (ok, I still do not know) what he has done previously to deserve being elevated to PM status. As far as I know, he is a graduate from UM. A Islamic Studies Graduate. Ok, I could do more research and find out more, but the thing is, that is not the case is it? If BN wins, UMNO President is PM for sure. So, it does not matter what he has or has not done, he will be PM for sure if BN wins a majority in the election.

What about the BN candidates? What have they done? What about DAP? or Keadilan? Anwar was incarcerated, he was victimised, he was made the scapegoat, but what has he done previously to deserve votes? Bowing to government policies when he was in the administration?

What has ANY of the politicians done? Most (if not all) of them have no experience, besides going from village to village fishing for votes, and they do not even KNOW what they are talking about.

The only candidate whom i KNOW has done something and is still doing something for the people, its Michael Chong. He is helping people from all walks of life, everyday of his life. He receives threats but he soldiers on. But is asking to be elected into Parliament? Unfortunately(or fortunately), he is not. Because he knows, once he is elected, he has no time to actually DO something. He would probably be too busy talking about doing something, but not actually doing it.

Sure, Khir Toyo the MB of Selangor says, Do not listen to the opposition's lies. They are out to smear our names. They do not even have anything to complain about, so they smear our names.

What about YOUR lies Khir Toyo? Please, you even lied about your alleged plastic surgery by saying it was a "well rested I am eating healthy transformation". I have been resting well and eating well for the past 26 years, but it has not given me a permanent surprise, taut skin , free of blemish and pigmentation look!

Every other day the SUN highlights your abuses. Please, lets not talk about opposition lies. Let us talk about your own. Let us talk about what you have been trying to do. Hoodwinking your people.

I am afraid to know sometimes. Afraid to find out that these people are all empty vessels. Though I know at the back of my head, they probably are.

I am contemplating whether I will, on March 8, be confident knowing,

Being young and ignorant

Last Saturday was a coming of age day for me. Well, kind of.

I am officially a registered voter. A full fledged, 6 years late, registered voter.
Yes, for someone who sure as hell talks a lot about our current administration, I was not an official voter, until last Saturday.
But in my defence( however lame it may be) I did not find the need to vote when I was 21 yrs old. I was ignorant then and I did not know enough then. Now that I know I want change, I signed myself up and am going to make sure my voice counts time this around.

Many of you will think that this is not a good excuse not to vote when I hit 21, then perhaps I should share a story with you. Over dinner one night, I spoke to a friend, lets name her T, about the coming elections and stu-, oh I meant,politicians. So, there we were going on and on about it. Then I found out that she has no knowledge whatsoever about the Lingam circus show, or the Atlantuya fiasco or anything else which were hitting the headlines for the past year. (granted it IS boring reproduction of usual BS everyday- what with one tycoon now officially taking over a free daily-we're not going to get anymore straight talking no nonsense reporting anymore) So, with my jaw almost hitting the dirty tables at a SS2 mamak eatery, I said "please do not tell me you do not care about voting either?!"

To which she smugly replied, " I am already registered. Was since I was 21."

With a hint of shame(me being the all high and mighty Oh my God, you dont know anything about the current situation!), I commended her on her "politicial consciousness" at such an early age. But my shame was quickly replaced with shock when she said " I voted for XX party because my mother asked me to. Not like I care and know who I voted for." (See? I rather be ignorant when I was 21 then stupidly voting because my mother asked me to)

When asked what she meant by voting for a person from a party which her mother asked her to, she just shrugged her shoulders and said " I don't know. I don't even remember who I voted for. I don't care really."

Now, I would like to backtrack a little. I have always been a big advocate of the Election Commission taking proactive measures in recruiting young voters. By this I mean that they should go to colleges and universities to encourage the young to sign up and register themselves. Yes, I know university students are not to be involved in politics, but they should be educated on the need to be registered and to be heard. By setting up registration booths at colleges and universities, a lot of students will sign up because its easy and hassle free. (A lot of them, including myself, did not and do not know where to sign up because we were never informed- we were just expected to one day wake up and say EUREKA!I know where to sign myself up!)

Anyways, I digress.

I am now fully convinced that the Election Commission, the Government, and all other people entrusted with the task of educating the people on their voting rights and why they need to vote, are NOT doing their job.I have said this before, but I shall like a broken record, say it again. A lot of people who are registered, are registered for the sake of it. They do not know what they want, and they do not care too much about who they are voting for.

Many vote the opposition for the sake of spite. I hate Datuk X. Hence I shall vote for the opposition just for the heck of it.
Many vote for BN because politicians descend into villages and their constituencies bearing gifts and promises (albeit empty ones).
And many vote because "my father ask me to vote for him ma"

So what has gone wrong? Why are so many people ignorant? WHy are so many people fooled into exercising their right for the wrong reasons? Do they REALLY care about change? Do they really agree to the current administration?

I often wonder how the young will have ANY politicial consciousness at all. Cleo Magazine's YOUNG ACHIEVERS AWARDS feature girls only from the entertainment scene. A Miss Malaysia, a singer-songwriter, a classical dancer, a I-won-a-reality-show contestant and another magazine will have a "I am so succesfull at such a young age" but they forger the other half of it "because my father is Datuk X and if he weren't I would not be sitting on the Board of Directors without any experience" (like please, if you did not have the money you think you will be where you are at 24 yrs old age?) What about those who have been fighting for women rights? Women who have overcome disabilities and triumphed? Those who are politicially active and are in NGOs? Oh, sorry, you're probably too ugly to qualify.

So when magazines catered for the younger generation only promote the popularity, celebrity and beauty = all you ever need to know and care, I do not blame the younger generation for being ignorant. Who needs to know how badly the current administration is doing?

If there is any news I really need to know, E! Channel provides it all.

The BS that is the Royal Commission

When the PM announced some time back that a Royal Commission of Inquiry would be set up to investigate or decide on the V K Lingam tape, I scoffed at the idea. Many were appalled that I had not only jeered at the idea, I lamented that it was all a farce, a show, a charade, a whatever you want to call it, except a real intention to get to the truth. In other words, tunjuk wayang sajalah.

Because you see, I already figured it out at that time that NOONE is going to own up to what happened in the tape. After all, that Indian man can say whatever he wants and nobody is going to be able to verify who the other person is at the other end of the line. Sure, everything can be proven by circumstantial evidence but if the ones who SIT on the Commission are suspect, what are the chances of there being a real desire for truth running along the veins of the panel? After all, "terms of referance" seems to be the guideline to everything in the whole charade.

The age of innocence does not exist in Malaysia

Only in Malaysia do politicians interpret the word "bataskan pergaulan antara lelaki dan perempuan" as "We are not stopping or asking for segregation. We are not stopping them from interacting. But to be careful in their interaction.The emphasis..is to be tertib.."

So that is what the textbook for 9 year olds was trying to say....

TERTIB . And to think ALL these while, I thought the word "BATAS" meant to limit. So when people were to exclaim "Cinta yang tiada batasannya" it did not mean unlimited or unconditional love, it actually means love with much order, or orderly love. (Whatever that means)

Our Education Minister says he teaches his children, and I quote " I dont stop them from mixing with the opposite gender. But we have to do it within our own culture and value system." unquote.

The question is actually, what culture and value system are we talking about here? Is it our Malaysian culture to tell our 9 year old children to be "orderly" when they mix with their peers? Do 9 year old children actually NEED these restrictions? When I was 9, I did not sit down and think to myself, "OHMYGAWD!THAT BOY IS LIKE SO HOT!I SO WANT HIM TO BE MY BOYFRIEND!*followed by devilish impure thoughts*"

9 years of age, for goodness sake.
Dont you think that the MORE you try to STOP them from doing something the MORE they are curious to know WHY? If I were 9 and I see a boy, I think, hmm, He is a boy. But if my parents come screaming and yelling to "STAY AWAY!DONT GO NEAR HIM!" I would think hmm..what is SO special about this fella?" So I would go read up about it. What Malaysian culture advocates that young children should limit, oh I meant make sure their actions are orderly, when they interact with children from another gender? And what values are we talking about that we ASSUME children of 9 are capable of having sexual thoughts or impure thoughts about the opposite gender? What type of upbringing is that?!

Even COURTS acknowledge that children below a certain age cannot differentiate between right and wrong or which parent they like best when they have to choose. Children at the age of 9 may tell you, when asked which parent they like better, " I like mummy better because she buys me ice cream all the time". Or I want to stay with Daddy because Daddy knows how to tape my favourite video shows."
And we in Malaysia SOMEHOW think children at the age of 9 can think oooohhh, a boy. I want to touch him you-know-where?

What is Malaysia becoming? Where are we heading?
It frightens me to know that as we progress closer to Vision 2020, our outlook and so called culture and values somehow have a pecutan negatif effect.

How a missing child ticked me off

I often wondered if I am the type of person who would cut my nose off just to spite my face.
I often thought I was and am not.

However, today I turned the pages of the newspapers and saw the ad for the missing girl Sharlinie Mohd Nashar. I did not even bother LOOKING at the photo that was attached to the tagline "MISSING/HILANG". Why? Presumably because I already know at the back of my head I would never be able to recognise a small girl (especially when I am not out specifically LOOKING for her) after looking at a picture for a mere few minutes. (What are the chances of you looking at a picture for a few minutes and if it so happens you were to see her, you say HEY!ITS SHARLINIE?! Unless she were dressed in a clown outfit or a neon glowing one, I doubt I have THAT keen an eye to see her in a sea of faces).

But perhaps also..just maybe, I dont really care.
Yes, many of you may open your mouth in horror or exclaim that I am inhumane and heartless. But you know what, how I feel about something does not need approval or judgment from anyone else. And frankly, I think some of you might just be as sick of it as I am.

Why is it that I perhaps, maybe...dont really care?

Now, like I said, I may be a person who might cut off my nose to spite the face. So here goes, firstly, what is SO special about Sharlinie? I mean, little children go missing all the time (somehow, statistics will show that malay kids tend to make up the majority of them..of course I many be wrong but judging from recent events) There was Nurin (whose father Jazimin is busy "tumpang-ing the glamour" of the recent disappearance of Sharlinie- like why do YOU need to give public statements? Who the heck ARE you? Why the heck must you appear in newspapers?Just because you daughter was found stuffed in a bag makes you the authority on missing children and what the police ought to do and what the public ought NOT to do? F off.) and there was Shearway Ooi - both of which were found murdered- one perpetrator caught the other roams free. And then there was the Indian girl who went to buy VCDs in the pasar malam and somehow did not come back at 12am and her parents subsequently made a police report at 4am.(who KNOWS why parents need to take so long before they realise, Hmmm...maybe my daughter is missing!) Of course this indian girl was fortunate enough to be found and returned to her parents.

Ok, back to why is Sharlinie so important?
Why are major companies joining in the effort to search for this girl? Newspaper ads from RHB, radio ads heard over Mix and Lite FM? Astro is showing it during commercials, and they get maximum press coverage on the disappearance of Sharlinie. Why is she so special compared to other children who went missing earlier? How come nobody did a nationwide search when Shearway Ooi went missing?Sure, there were some newspaper articles on her. But posters, ads and radio announcements?When? I dont remember it at all. What about the Indian girl? I am sorry, but I am about to make a biased, racist observation. Why do Malay children get all the attention? Why only Malay children? Remember Yin? The boy who wondered off in Lot 10? Oh, he got major nationwide attention too. And surprisingly, the police I believe has offered a reward if one is to find Sharlinie. (what is this? The Find Osama bin Laden gameshow!?!SPOT SHARLINIE!WIN A PRIZE!)

Sure, many of you may think I am just a bitter chinese girl. Well, you know what?

I am.

I am the bitter chinese girl who read in the newspapers that the Government allocated RM10 million to help Muslims who borrowed money from the Ah Longs, the one who see tons of lousy colleges get University Status because they are run by Malays but takes LICT 10 years before they were allowed to have it. Where there is UiTM, UTM, UPM, UKM, UM, UTP, and all other "U" cropping up everywhere in which the Non-Muslims have to FIGHT to get it even if they have good results because there is a quota, but only one chinese run "U" which after 10 years of fighting and pleading, was finally allowed to be set up, UTAR.

And yes, I am also the same bitter chinese girl who did not get a scholarship from the college she graduated from because I was not told the "inside" information about the College offering scholarships to students who cannot afford to fund their tertiary education- but miraculously a Malay boy with D D E results was TOLD about it, and got a scholarship to go study overseas.

I am also the same bitter chinese girl who do not and will never EVER understand the word "TOLERANCE" when Muslims says we are TOLERANT of the Non Muslims and their ways.
Who died and made you the owners of Malaysia?

I KNOW, some Muslims disagree with me. Some may say, hey, I am not like that!
I know. I have Malay friends who ADMIT that because they are the race they are, they get more than I ever will and they are not proud of it. Those friends of mine, you know who you are, I respect you.

But unfortunately, you are not running the Government. You do not make the majority.
And unfortunately, if ever UMNO were to be toppled, I would be too dead to know.

When being Muslim is all you need...

Just last Sunday, the birds were chirping, the sun was shining(albeit a little too hot) and my cup of coffee was no longer piping hot and ready for drinking, and it was just working out to be a perfect Sunday when I picked up the newspapers and saw this headline:-

"GOVERNMENT ALLOCATES RM10m TO HELP MUSLIM VICTIMS OF AH LONG"
(ok, it was not a big screaming headline, but a small inconspicous one so as not to attract too much attention to the absurdity of it)

Ok, my first thought was of course WTF?
Then, WHY TF is it confined to only muslims?
ANd WTF do you mean by RM10 MILLION allocated by the GOVERNMENT?

I mean clearly, this is a WTF situation.

Firstly, isnt the Government suppose to help the rakyat regardless of race and religion? Did they not say that the Government is not biased, that they care for ALL MALAYSIANS and all that BS?
So, why allocate that huge chunk of money (which may I remind them, comes not only from the MUSLIMS, but all MALAYSIANS) to help the so called victims of Ah longs? And ONLY muslims.
What about other NON MUSLIM victims? The ones who were also "tricked" into borrowing money from Ah Longs? Are they disqualified from the Government's allocation because they are not Muslims and hence it is impossible that they were tricked (like all muslims who borrowed from ah longs are) but they stupidly got themselves into that shit, hence they should dig themselves out of it?

What could possibly be the reason for the money being allocated to help the Muslims who have borrowed from Ah Longs and are now in huge debts?

And does it not occur to the Government that the majority of those who DO borrow from these loansharks are Chinese? Yet there is no allocation to HELP them? But for the small percentage of Muslims who do they get RM10m to aid them??

Come on. They are ALL the same. They needed money. They didnt have money. The banks wont give them money and they went to the loansharks to get it.

Where is the TRICKED INTO BORROWING part comes in?
Its a choice which they took. Its a CONSCIOUS choice and there is no difference whether you are a Muslim or you are not. The choice process is the same.

When Parents Fail &Children Suffer

You know what pisses me off more than people who do not understand touch & go REALLY means TOUCH AND GO and not touch, look for appropriate place to place t&g card, check reflection in mirror after touching card on panel, wind up window, put car into P and then finally after 5 painful minutes, Go? Stupid Parents.Stupid Parents piss me off more than those T&G retards.

So, like what is up with stupid parents that Piss me off big time? Its bad enough that parents who can hardly make ends meet decide that they want to make their lives much harder by having MORE children(and then whining that they cannot take care of them because, SURPRISE, SURPRISE, they have no money) they then also decide that, I will allow my children to roam free and play in flood waters eventhough I know it is dangerous and they might drown. AND, they also decide, you know what? Eventhough there is a psycho-freak-murderer-rapist roaming around my area abducting children(sometimes raping AND killing them), I will allow my child of 5yrs go to the playground 200m from my house all by her lonesome self, oh sorry, accompanied by an 8 yr old, to go play.

After all, like what ARE the chances of her being abducted? Eventhough she is at the age which fits exactly into the profile of the type of children he likes to abduct, or that she is young and is easily swayed into following a stranger to "help look for cats" or that she is watched over by an oh-so-much-older sister aged 8, she IS, you know, only 2oom from the house and my eyes can see beyond my front gates, bend AND look into the playground and keep a watchful eye over her!OKAY APA!

When I see a teary eyed parent holding a picture of the abducted girl with a puzzled look of "eh?why?how?", all I want to do is march right up to her, slap her around and when no one is looking, jab her in the eyes, and then ask her, what are you STUPID?

Ok, so many of you are thinking, MAYBE she did not read the newspaper reports on the other missing girl? MAYBE she was too busy and did not notice that her children have gone out to play? Maybe, Maybe Maybe. The only maybe I can think of is, MAYBE they are just stupid. MAJORLY OVERLY DUMB.
Nurin Jazlin did not make it to major newspapers? Even if you did not READ about it, you would have definitely HEARD about it from your neighbours? Like AS IF kay-poh-chee-ness is not a culture in Malaysia. Please. When a car stops at the side of the road, every damn car on the highway stops or slows don to check out whether there was an accident and whether there is somebody lying dead on the road. Even if you did not HEAR about Nurin, you would have known that another girl from within the same housing area was abducted just a few days ago? Like HELLO? SAME AREA? Not another state or another country or even another part of town, but in KAMPUNG MEDAN ITSELF?

God. The stupidity of these parents just get to me. While I pity the fact that the girl has been abducted and hopefully found unharmed and safely returned to her (dumbass) parents, I do NOT pity parents who negligently allow their children to be out and about when they know there are psychos roaming the streets.

Sure, a lot of us have the feminist movement thoughts of why can't I go out and night without the fear of being raped? Why must I curb my nocturnal activities just because there are psycho rapists roaming the streets? Why must I sacrifice my lifestyle? WHY?
Why cant the police roam the streets and be more effective in catching the bad guys?
Why cant I wear short miniskirt with a plunging top and roam Chow Kit without being harrassed by perverts?

Cos the police cannot be at every damn place at every damn time idiot. And besides,a majority of them have car,home and Courts Mammoth loans to clear, so they cannot be roaming the streets to catch villains, they have to jump out of bushes to catch motorists speeding and make some money out of it.

And because the human mind is something which cannot be dissected and understood for sure. Because some people are just born criminals. Because while we should be allowed to live life the way we want it, we should also take precautions.

Of course it only makes sense that if you wear a mini dress with hooker heels in say, MidValley, you would never expect perverts to do things to you. Or if you are an Air Asia stewardess, you can damn well wear what uniform you want when you are serving in the plane because the environment is a safe and secure environment. But if you were to say, be roaming alone in Petaling Street dressed as such, it only makes sense that you are attacting perverts to DO something dont you?Come on. Its like shouting I LOVE MANCHESTER UNITED in Liverpool.

Of course I am not going so far as to say we INVITE them to rape us. Or sexually harrass us. I am just saying, you have to be smart. You have to assess the situation. The world is no longer a safe place. Its undeniable.

So this whole Chua Soi Lek thing has twisted a lot of people's panties in a bunch. Maybe much more than his wifes'. After all, his wife has said that she has accepted his apology and she will stand by him. (I say, WHAAAATTT??But that is another story all together)

So, who are WE to judge him and his personal life?

Sure, he is a married man. Yes, he is a politician and yes, he is the Health Minister. And yes, he did a 20+ yr old chick in a hotel room. SO? Does that make him any less a good politician? Please, half if not ALL the politicians are having their very own sex romp in various hotels in the country. Even our PM married his ex sister in law. Nobody commented on THAT. Nobody went "EWWWWW...that is so WRONG!He should step down as the PM!" Instead everyone went, TAHNIAH!PAK LAH! TAH-NEE-AH!

Now, a LOT of people disagree with me when I exclaimed "SO WHAT he got caught committing adultery?!He is an effective Minister!"
They claim that a politician is held on a higher moral ground. A higher level of respect and acceptable behaviour.

The question is WHY? Why is there an "acceptable behaviour and moral ground" thing (pertaining to his private life) attached to a politician? Does his choice to become a politician automatically give the public a right to scrutinise his private life? Or assess his morality? Or shake our head in disgust that a man of 60 can cheat on his wife?
Does it?

I think not. I think he is entitled to screw whomever he wants in his own time and at wherever he wants. I say GO FORTH AND SREW.
But IF he were to say that everybody rich and poor must pay their medical bills and then asks for a waiver when he is hospitalised,or spearheads a QUIT SMOKING campaign while he puffs on 30 ciggies a day, I will be the first in line to spit on him and ask him to quit.

You see, he is the Health Minister. He should be judged based on his abilities to run the Ministry. His beliefs in the administration and the policies of the Ministry of Health. In short, he has to practise what he preaches.
If he were say, an unmarried politician who exclaims, LET US NOT HAVE PRE MARITAL SEX MY FRIENDS and then sneak into the backyard for a quickie, THEN I say, you do not deserve to be there. Please step down. In fact, Please fall off the face of the earth.

Many politicians out there are not practising what they preach. They advocate "Kami Anti Rasuh" in their departments and then stories emerge that they are on the take themselves. Mr Bandaraya speaks of "disappointment" with bad officers not performing their jobs but we know he is making so much money from dodgy deals, he has gone for some major reconstruction on his face to look younger.

So, I dont care what these people do in their personal sex lives. In fact if it does not invite any criminal prosecution, I am fine with it. You want to have a mistress, please go ahead, just make sure the potholes along Section 16 are patched up nicely. You want to commit adultery? Go ahead, just make sure that the Government servants are doing their jobs effectively. You want to do a sex tape? Please go ahead, just make sure the police are not out there taking rasuah while wearing their Kami Anti Rasuah badge. And as a bonus, you want to wear a wig on your head? Please do, just make sure you do not increase the toll rates every damn year when there is a jam every damn festive season or long weekend.

Lets give Chua some credit here. At least he was honest and brave enough to say, Yes it was me. Yes, I did it.

How many of you so called politicians out there would ever, EVER admit your mistakes?

So, what are the prospects for the new year?

Hindraf leaders have been detained under the ISA. This of course spelled trouble for Badawi as he was alienating a lot of the Indian Voters. So he sat down and thought long and hard (actually more like some other people sat down and thought long and hard, he was busy with his Jeanne and his opening ceremonies, planting trees, meeting "world" leaders and basically doing ceremonial stuff) and decided Oklah, to balance out this ISA Hindraf thing, I have to release some people from ISA detention. Who better than those who were detained for Al-Jemaah activities? THAT would DEFINITELY get the Malay voters to go OH YEAH!HE DA MAN!(The Anwar Ibrahim release was too long ago already).

So he did.

So people who allegedly threatened to blow up other people in the name of Islam were allowed to run scott free. However, if you use the word Allah and you are not Muslim, be warned! You might ALSO be detained under the ISA. Like WTF is the ISA?! Insult the King, ISA. Insult the PM, ISA. Insult Islam, ISA.Insult the Government, ISA.Sing Negaraku but with other lyrics (and Muslim prayers in Background) ISA. Insult Christianity. Its ok. Insult Buddhism, Its ok.

I think ISA would soon make it as a national symbol or a national dish soon.

Ok, so who actually died and made the Malaysian Government the protector of Islam?! Islam may be the official religion of the country, but using the ISA to "defend" it? Is ISA not a legislation to protect national security? Such as being attacked by enemies or threatening the stability of the country? How does using the word "Allah" in the Malay section of the Herald threaten national security? Did the people in the Parliament pass the legislation to protect the religion of some(ok the majority) of Malaysians? Or was it legislated to protect Malaysians as a whole, whether they are Muslims, Buddhist, Hindus, Christians or etc?

So lets say, if a person were to swerve into my lane and I shout "JESUS CHRIST!(followed by obscene gesture)" are the Christians then entitled to ask the Government to detain me under the ISA because I used the name of Christ in vain? You may read this and laugh out loud. But is that not what the Government is semi-threatening the Herald? NO ONE is allowed to use the name of ALLAH unless you are Muslim and you use it well and proper. Its just like how you cannot name a teddy bear Mohammad because apparently it belongs to Islam. So if you say, have a child tomorrow and want to name him Mohammad Chin Wong Kit. BE WARNED! It might be an insult to Islam.Then you may be ISA-ed.

I dont understand this ISA thing. Why would you say we are a democratic country, with our rights enshrined in the constitution and then say however we are entitled to deny the constitutional rights of our people? And if the justification of ISA is that sometimes the freedom and the constitutional rights of SOME people have to be sacrificed in the name of national security and stability, how does the utterance of ALLAH affect us non Muslims? How does the Negarakuku song threaten us Non Muslims? In fact, how does singing Negarakuku threaten ANYTHING?

So 2007 saw ridiculous things making headway under the Badawi administration. What then is in store for 2008?

The seriousness of DBKL

As much as possible, I try not to be mean. As much as possible, I refrain from calling people names. And as much as possible, I try to keep my innermost truthful thoughts to myself when someone is being stupid. But when Edmund Bon is arrested for stopping DBKL officers from removing banners placed in the private property of the Bar Council, I have to yell "WHAT ARE YOU STUPID BADAWI(to be alternated every once in a while with Gani Patail,Nazri, Musa or even any member of the Government)??"

Seriously.

Arrested and charged for preventing officers from DBKL from removing banners? This is instilling fear into our kids who run jogathons and food fairs. If those DBKL officers tell you to remove your "FUNFAIR" banner outside your school, you jolly well do it. They might arrest you for "obstructing justice" or "going against public orders" and they wont allow you to have bail because "its a serious offence". I mean, so what if there are murders, robberies, snatch thefts, rapes and incests going on nationwide,every day, not investigated or ignored. Preventing DBKL officers from doing their oh-so important jobs, is a SERIOUS OFFENCE. What more when they remove banners from private property? Uber important work they are doing there I tell you.
I feel so safe in this country. There are people out there who are willing to risk their lives, removing banners from private property all in the name of the nation's security and well being.

While the main stream newspapers(who are obviously Government controlled)found it appropriate to publish 60% of Malaysians have faith in the Government!We HEART BADAWI!HELL YEAH we have democracy in this country! many of those disgruntled who have taken to the streets and turned up in court to support the lawyers detained, know better.
Does Badawi truly, truly know what is going on? If his main legal man is Nazri and that Patail guy, I am afraid he has a lousy support system. Here's a scenario which I think will unfold whenever there is a demonstration.(main actors consist of a man we shall call Ah Pak Le, Pataee and Nazahree)

I am convinced that is how most policies in the Country is made out. There is this type of conversation and then there is the type of action which they take.

So we sit and wonder, while there are floods in Johore and Pahang, sweeping men and women alike under the strong currents (and this is unavoidable every time of the year due to bad construction, bad drainage and terrible development in the towns) our PM does not find it fit to perhaps find a solution to that problem (which occurs every year) and send the police men and FRU teams to help those in need. Instead, he thinks it makes more sense to send out the police to hold road blocks at every corner of the town (hence causing massive traffic jams) and sending FRUs to stop demonstrations and protests by spraying water and throwing tear gas.

Dim wits.

I do not really know whether to be embarassed by HINDRAF or to be proud of HINDRAF.I lean a little more towards embarassment and humiliation. It is safe to say that HINDRAF's claim of every Indian ever to walk the soils of Malaysia is worth RM1 million, is illogical to say the least. Now, when I read this ridiculous woe is me because of you claim, I thought to myself what a ruckus the Africans will create if they had the same ideas as these Indian men leading HINDRAF. Sure, we all acknowledge the fact that the MIC may not be doing enough for the Indian community. I mean, look who is running that organisation. Then again, if so many of the Indians feel that he is not looking after their interests, why do they keep voting for him, over and over again? I have this sudden urge to shout PADAN MUKA!(just like how I want to shout it at those Americans who moan about Bush yet reelect him, rigged elections or otherwise).

So, now, why do I lean towards humiliation and less towards being proud?

Firstly, what is the objective of HINDRAF? Was it REALLY to fight the cause of the Indians? Are the Indians in fact being intentionally left behind in the economic race in Malaysia? Now, the operative word here is INTENTIONAL. Is the Government indeed INTENTIONALLY preventing the Indians from rising to their fullest potential? What reasons could there be for doing that? Apparently HINDRAF supporters feel that way. They say the Government has sidelined them and has not helped them in "upgrading" their standards of living. So they ask for a special hotline to cater for all the Indian grouses and complaints which may need to be forwarded to the Government. (Like, hello? Who died and made you so special?)

When I sit down and think about it (yes, every once in a while, I DO think) I ask myself this question. If I were Indian, why would I feel persecuted? And unloved by my own country? Is it because I have tried and failed because of the country's policies? Or because I have not tried at all and I expect it to fall into my lap and I just enjoy the luxury?

I digress a little but I share this discussion I had with a friend, A just the other day. Now, A is of a different race and religion from me yet we share the same thoughts on this issue. When I asked him whether he thought the Indians were doing enough for themselves, he agreed they were not. A quick look (and admittedly some racial profiling) will show that young Malay boys try to help themselves by setting up Ramly Burger stalls to make a quick buck. Chinese boys sell pirated DVDs to earn a living. Now, what do young Indians do? They resort to crime. Am I being racists? Am I doing too much of a racial discrimination cum racial profiling thing here?

Am I really?I have had my fair share of crime related experience with Indian youths.

Of course A reminded me about Mat Rempits and their race. And I asked him whether the Mat Rempits have accused the Government of not doing enough to help them be better or they just choose to live that life. He contemplated the question and agreed that it was indeed a lifestyle choice. They are not Rempits because the Government has not done enough for them. They like that life. They want to be there.

But apparently the Indians are resorting to crime because the Government has failed them. I admit in my earlier posts that I agree the Government is not doing enough to help them, but to have a massive demonstration (and in the process humiliating me, as a Malaysian, for showing how much of a third world country we still are) and sue the British Government for trillions?! Come on.

While we can always point at someone to say you're not doing enough, we also have to use those hands to do something to help ourselves. Sure that man at the helm of MIC is not doing enough, so you as a voter, have to do something about it. Boot him out. Its quite easy really. If you cannot help yourselves(and your own people do not want to help you either) do not blame it others! You think Lim Goh Tong got where he is today because he sat around thinking woe is me!Woe are my parents who came to Malaysia as nothing but labourers and servants! Well, no. He worked hard and he overcome the obstacles of being born poor.

A lot of us are not born with a silver spoon in our mouths. Admitedly while there is no such thing as equal opporunities in Malaysia, there are STILL opportunities. Are you the son of a rubber tapper? Who said you cannot study hard and be who you want to be? Are you the daughter of a wan ton mee seller? How did you get those 10A1s and obtained a scholarship to further your studies? Are you the young girl living in the Orang Asli settlement who had to study with kerosene lamps every night because your family is too poor to have electricity? How did you overcome that and managed 4As for your UPSR?It can be done. It is just a matter of whether you want to do it.

On a different note, while I agree HINDRAF's demostration is stupid,prosecution for illegal assembly? How come those UMNO supporters did not get prosecuted for holding a massive "we hate Condoleeze Rice" demonstration a year back? That was not an unlawful assembly? Did the Government endorse it? If indeed the Government did, why did we host Condoleeza Rice? Maybe because that guy whose father in law is the PM headed it, so the un was dropped for the lawful and no prosecution was necessary.

At least you can TRY to be consistent. It might have happened a year ago(more or less) and many things have happened between then and now, but while we might not remember, but we sure as hell do not forget.

Got alternative or not?

My receptionist(S) told me yesterday that while she was buying keropok lekor the other day, the makcik selling it asked if she were an UMNO supporter because "kalau sokong UMNO hidup senang dik". She replied that she was not really a supporter of anything she termed "political" so she was not technically a supporter of UMNO. The only thing which stopped the keropok lekor aunty from snatching the keropok lekor back from the clutches of my receptionist and pelt her with the lekor dough was probably because S said "tapi mak saya penyokong kuat UMNO la makcik".

I then asked her if and when she decides to vote, will she vote for UMNO or well, the coalition BN?She hesitated and then said, "Saya beritahu mak saya kalau saya undi pun undi Keadilan kot." When asked why she replied, "Entahlah. Saya cakap je lah. Tapi bila saya betul betul pergi undi tentu undi UMNO/BN."

Hmmm...did the "hidup senang" propaganda the keropok lekor aunty spew hit home? Does UMNO/BN indeed give us citizens a "hidup senang"?

Now, my thoughts on these issue is quite simple (to me anyway). I attended a talk last friday where the likes of Anwar Ibrahim, Tun Salleh Abas, Sivarasa Rasiah and some other people of importance were in attendance. They all stood up at the podium and basically trashed the government, past and present (during Mahathir era to present day Badawi era)labelling the government "corrupted" as evident from the V K Lingam fiasco, and the ex and current PM having no respect for the separation of powers as they were "not lawyers like the earlier three PMs" and that the Government were basically hoodwinking us into believing they are DOING something for us when instead they are taking us for a ride.

So I nodded along with the rest of the crowd, interjected every once in a while with whooping and loud applause and the conversation of a very stupid chinese man who kept his mobile on the whole time which rang with his ah beng tunes and picking it up with "WEI? HAI? AH, HAI"- like seriously uncle. Have you no civic consciousness? (what made it even more frustrating was the fact that he raised his hand and clapped with enthusiasm when the talk ended- AS IF you heard anything!You were on the mobile the whole damn time!)

Anyway, I digress.(Stupid uncle in psychedelic shirt)

So, while I agreed with the undeniable fact that the current government (and the previous one too) was corrupt and running the country in their own interests, I ask the question in my head- "what alternative do you, as an opposition party, have to offer us?"

Many people tell me (which I agree wholeheartedly) that the reason why we vote for the oppposition is not because they GIVE us an alternative, but because we need to reduce the 2/3 majority that BN currently has. Of course, by reducing the majority of BN we can in fact keep the government on its toes, and remind them to pluck their noses out the air and actually SERVE the people and not their own interests.

But if the Opposition parties were created YESTERDAY, then perhaps we can forgive them for not coming up with an alternative. But has it not been too many years passing for opposition parties to say "Government= corrupt, Government= bad, but we dont really have an alternative but let us concentrate on GOVERNMENT BAD!GOVERNMENT CORRUPT!BAD GOVERNMENT BAD GOVERNMENT!!*spank*"

I think more has to be done by the opposition. Yes. I know you do not have the money. Yes, I know to HAVE the money you have to be in power. So it is a chicken and egg situation. But still? Come on, throw us a line here.

Anyway, back to more important things, now, what is this PM's son in law going on and on about?

You see, he was speaking at a seminar themed "Fearless" and he fearlessly(and shamelessly I must add) said,
1) "I want to start with small conversations across the country with young people of different background and races and talk about what it is to be Malaysian..."

What it is to be Malaysian? Who needs to go all across the country(probably in a rakyat's money sponsored trip) and speak of things which we all know about but the Government refuses to acknowledge? Well, I for one know what is it to be Malaysian. No racial discrimination, and that includes "positive" discrimination and how outdated it is now. Telling the Education Department that memos sent out on the necessity (nay, the obligation) to give work only to Bumiputra vendors, is nothing short of crap and the denial based on "miscommunication" is BS to say the least. And at first the Bumiputra discount was 5% and now its 7%? (I dont get this whole Bumiputra discount thing).

2) "Talk about why Malays feel strongly about Malay rights, about Islam, the syariah court, about a certain decision involving a woman named Lina Joy..."

Why Malays feel strongly about Malay rights? Why not? You have everything served to you on a silver platter. Want to get into university? No problem, just dont fail too bad, and just by ticking "Melayu", you're so in! Want to get a big contract job? Bumiputra? No problem-la. How about a scolarship? What? You only have 6As and the other chinese/indian/lain-lain got 10A1s? No worries, you're malay!No quota on the number of Malays!Quota only applies to you know, the "others". Why oh, why would we be insecure? Could it be because freedom of religion means jackshit? The constitution is an illusion. We hear it may exists, and every once in a while, someone whispers it, but we dont really practise it. Could it be because the Government practises "positive discrimination" for the past 50 years since independence? Or could it be because the whole 9MP is based on Islamic principles? OR maybe because our top people have boldly and proudly declared Malaysia as an ISLAMIC COUNTRY eventhough the last we checked, its a secular one?

Mr. PM-is-my-father-in-law, why dont you stop making all these "middle ground" statements and " I-represent-all-races-in-Malaysia-hear-me-roar" BS? None of us have forgotten the keris waving episode. In fact we wait with bated breath for the next one, perhaps this time around, you may win the one-two-jus and get to wave your OWN keris (with ketchup for effect).

We dont need statements. We dont need all these rubbish. If we want to hear something positive and intelligent, we listen to Sultan Azlan Shah or his son Nazrin. At least they know what they are talking about. At least they dont go around doing something clearly against some people and then turn around and say "It would take a lot of courage to enter this national conversation but if we dont understand each other then its clear to me we wont reach wherever it is we want to go".

You see, I know where you're going. And I dont like it one bit. The only courage you ever need, is to admit your mistakes. Own up to your Islamic radical thoughts. Profess your inner most thoughts and where the Non-Muslims actually stand in this country and shout out your true loyalties.

That's the only courage and bravery we ever need from our leaders. If you wont acknowledge the state of affairs in this country, then you're nothing but a mere coward.

Suck up the dirt!Suck it up!

So many things have happened these past few weeks. We sent our first Malaysian to space and eventhough he is quite good looking, he said "I send my regards to all Malaysian." Hence we can be sure English is not his first language but then again, what chances do we have that a Chinese man or an Indian girl would have been sent to space under the Malaysian flag?Then again, who said the Chinese man or Indian girl would have included an S after Malaysian.I digress.

Many things have happened over these past few weeks, our first cosmonaut/astronaut/whatevernaut made it to space, his brother somehow bumped into a pole, knocked himself unconcious, landed in a coma and subsequently passed away(how?why?we will probably never know), our Prime Minister denounces the Malaysian Bar march for justice, Nazri did not show up at the Malaysian Law Conference probably for fear that the conference goers will pelt him with something, our own police force are fighting between themselves, getting themselves killed in a so called botched anti drug operation(how the Commercial Crimes Chief Inspector somehow got roped into fighting drugs is beyond me) and the ACA is being attacked from every direction there is for well, investigating corruption allegations.

Ok, now let us examine the reason why the ACA is set up. Anti Corruption Agency. So, what they should be doing is of course to investigate into corruption allegations. Correct? Now, when a policemen somehow has RM27 million to his name, a windfall through a lottery ticket is probably not the first thing that pops to our minds. Obviously, we think, hhhmm...something smells fishy here. Could it have been...corruption? So when the RM27million-gate scandal broke and made front news, the ACA acted swiftly. They investigated and the deeper they went, the more they found out. Apparently money was given, people released and in between all these investigations, the name of informants somehow leaked out. So Mr.RM27 million became angry and had a press conference denouncing the ACA and their rough handling of him and his people and how he had genuinely made the disclosure of his assets and how unhappy he is that it was leaked to the public (like HELLO!? Policeman RM27million? Hell yeah it has to be made known to the public! and yeah, its confirmed, our policemen are wusses,whining about "rough handling by ACA officers"? COME ON!)

Now, while I agree that the names of informants should be kept secret, I disagree that the ACA should be faulted for investigating into corruption. I applaud their bravery for bringing those policemen to court for falsifying witness statements. I applaud them for finally doing something about the illegal funeral parlour on Jalan Gasing that the MPPJ refused to act on because well, lets not get started on that man...

Ok, so someone somewhere messed up a little in the ACA. But we need this. We need the clean up. We have to support the clean up of the government. Transparency has to mean something.

Honesty and integrity have to mean something in this country.
